
In January, tourist arrival in Sri Lanka surpassed 75,000

The Sri Lanka Tourism Minister, Prasanna Ranatunga, has recently mentioned that the number of tourists who came to the country in January has surpassed 75,000. The minister has also stated that from January 1 to January 29 tourist arrival reached 76,538. Maximum travellers had come from Russia.
During the month of January, 12,368 tourists had arrived in Sri Lanka from the Russian Federation. Also, 11,028 have arrived from India and 7,427 from Ukraine. In the last 29 days, 6,929 tourists have arrived from the United Kingdom, 4,902 from Germany and 3,337 from France.
Tourists have also come from Poland, Australia, the Maldives and Kazakhstan, as per the recent reports from the Tourism Development Authority.
While looking at 2021’s statistics, the number of tourists who visited Sri Lanka was 194,495. In January 2021, only 1,682 tourists arrived in the country.
In 2022, the Tourism Ministry is hopeful to welcome more than 1.1 million tourists in Sri Lanka. Minister Ranatunga also stated that the government has by now introduced short term, medium-term and long-term programmes that would help in promoting the country and increase tourism.
