The high school students in Utah and those who are interested to pursue a college education can now join an internship program in the hotel and tourism industries. HB 43, Hospitality and Tourism Management CTE Pilot Program Sunset Extension, has passed and is on its way for the signature of the governor.
The Keys to Success – is the name of the program. As per the bill’s sponsor, Rep. Melissa Ballard, the legislature granted its extension since the project lost two years because of COVID-19.
“It provides internships and apprenticeships for high school students in the hotel and tourism industries. Utah has been expanding internship and apprenticeships across the state for high schoolers,” Ballard said.
At first, the program was launched only for high schoolers. In 2021, the Keys to Success adult portal was launched. This was done to support adults in their paths towards college and career readiness.
In 2004, the program was launched when the Ken Garff Family took the decision to assist the Utah Education System. The family created Success in Education, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that launched the program.
